Another shooting schedule for our filming

Tuesday 7th February- Filming-Sidcup high street after school - 3.30pm

we need to find : a WHITE wall

A cafe for our character to enjoy chatting and drinking together. We will then contrast this and film our actor on his own in the cafe looking down and depressed. Head shots to be done of each character, extreme close ups, close ups, medium shot and long shots.

Monday 13th - We are all going to meet at my house at 1:00 to finish our filming. We are going to shoot a variety of shots of the two actors together. In a cafe, In a house and walking outside. Our filming will show our actor Jake is looking back on his memories together, the shots then change to now where he is on his own thinking of the change his relationship has gone through.
Here is our set up of the camera and the tripod. The tripod was vital as we needed the camera to be totally still.

Here myself and Voke are listening to the music and explaining to Jake our actor what he has to do as he is not in our media class when we are planning.

New location

For our second shot at make a music video we are going to change the locations we used as the previous locations are not suitable for our new story. This time we are going to used:
DARTFORD HIGH STREET:
Dartford high street is going to be used for most of the film. This is the location where Jake is going to look back on his life with his girl friend and look back on the happy times.
MY HOUSE:
my house is going to be used for more memories of him and his girlfriend and also when he is getting ready for his girlfriends funeral. We are going to show the emotional break down he goes through and how can not cope with the state of change.

Rough cut

gif makerHere is the rough cut of our video. This was the first time editing for myself and Vicky. We both took on the role of editing and worked well together, sharing the work fairly. Final Cut editing was a lot harder then we thought it was going to be. It was definitely a lot harder then editing the animation that me and Vicky edited. We felt that it was going to be quite similar but it was actually A LOT different because with the animatic our main focus was when each clip was meant to change, on the different counts of the beat. However with the actual editing, we had to ensure we got the right amount of clip because stretching it to however long we wanted it was not an option. We could only stretch it to how long the clip was. We also had to render each clip after editing it. Although myself and Vicky were working well together having to render every clip after editing it was extremely time consuming. We were able to quickly find out how to render it, edit and cut it and also add in effects such as cross dissolves and desaturated images.
Things I will do differently when editing for the final cut.
Myself and Vicky have looked at the rough cut and decided on a few things that we will definitely change in the final cut. We are going to change the lighting on some of the clips so that the lighting matches the scene and mood we are setting. some parts we filmed are in light when they should be in dark etc. We want to create continuity and the same house style. We want our video to make sense.
At one point during filming out camera run out of battery, as we borrowed the camera we were not giving the battery for it. We were not going to let this stop us, so for the rough cut we decided to use another digital device. We forgot to ensure that the digital divide was landscape and unfortunately the filming came out portrait. We didn't have time to re-film to before the rough cut was due in so have decided that will be one of our first priorities to do for the final cut.

As we expected some of our timings of clips were out compared to our animatic. We didn't mind this but we want to make sure there still in beat. so we will go through and ensure that they match the song perfectly.

Here are some images of the editing process

Filming for the second time

For our second shot at filming we are filming the chorus in Sophie's garage. We are also filming the end part where Jake is confronted by the stalker at Long field Train station.

In our second part of our filming we are going to do the chorus and other parts that we feel we should re-do due to lighting.

Second time round filming I feel that we will make less mistakes, we will have our story board with us and know exactly what we are doing. We will also know how we want our lighting to be so what time to film certain parts and how long to film for seeing as some parts get cut down due to speeding them up on Final Cut.

After our second lot of filming, we will have all of our filming done and will be able to start really editing for our rough cut to get the final touches to the video.

OUR EDITING SO FAR....

So far we have edited what we can. Every clip we feel that is good enough for our video we have edited. It is hard for us to see how it looks so far because there are a lot of gaps due to the filming not being finished.

The Chorus

The Chorus in our song is the part when Jake our actor finds out that he is being stalked. He is feeling paranoid anyway and runs into a room where he can get away. As he runs in he sees pictures of him self and love quotes all over the wall. Indicating the stalkers love for him. This is the first time he finds out about the stalker.
Strobe lights will be used to add a sense of paranoia.
This poster has also been used, it is going to be added to. Making a huge poster of all pictures of Jake and intense love sayings.

Time schedule for filming

When knowing that we didn't have long until the final cut was due in and knowing how little of the filming we had done. I have decided to make a time schedule. This time schedule tells us exactly what we are planning to do on Friday and what each member of the group MUST bring on the day.
This will help us work better as we will know exactly what we have to do. We can tick it off as we do each one this way nothing gets forgotten and we can start to edit properly!
I printed four of these time schedules out so that all of the members of the group could have one and knew what to bring.

Our first day of filming

Our first attempt at filming up Camden.
On the Wednesday the 4th of January Myself, Vick, Sophie, Voke and Jake all met up to travel to Camden and film out first attempt at our music video. Some parts were really good and have been used in our rough cut. Other parts we definitely need to re-do after looking at the lighting and spacing in final cut.

ROLES IN THE MAKING OF THE VIDEO

EMILY FRY AND JAKE VERLANDER - starring in the video
SOPHIE JANSEN AND VOKE OYEYE- filming the video
VICKY GORDON- directing the video
EMILY FRY with help from Vicky Gordon- editing the video on Final Cut.

Here is a bridge in Camden we are using in our film. We have felt that using this as an overlay would give a great alone effect. Its dark, no one is walking on the bridge and the sense of cold flowing water sends chills to the viewers.

This location is where we have filmed the part where the actor first meets his stalker. This is a great place because it looks like a quiet, deserted underwalk. That fits in wonderfully with the sense of loneliness.

This is a picture of Jake our actor. This is taken by Camden lock. We have edited this picture so that it brightens up the graffiti. The graffiti adds the effect to the youthful audience we are trying to relate to and the mood we are trying to set. Dark and grim, lonely and scared. Paranoid. COLOURS that relate to this are dark colours such as black and blue.

PROBLEMS WE HAD WHILE FILMING

. IT STARTED TO RAIN AND GET DARK THEREFORE SOME OF THE FILMING COULDN'T GET DONE AS IT WAS TOO DARK TO SEE OUR ACTOR AND MYSELF THE ACTRESS

. WE WANTED THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO HELP OUT WITH BEING IN THE VIDEO BUT IT WAS HARDER THEN WE THOUGHT TO GET PEOPLE WHO WERE WILLING TO BE FILMED.

. ON OUR FIRST DAY OF FILMING WE HAD FORGOT OUT STORY BOARD. ALTHOUGH WE ALL KNEW IT ROUGHLY WE DIDN'T KNOW THE WHOLE STORY LINE FROM SCENE TO SCENE SO THERE WERE SOME PARTS THAT WERE MISSED OUT!

BETTER LUCK ON OUR SECOND TIME FILMING I'M SURE!

Further planning for our video

We inboxed one another on facebook telling eachother train times and how much they cost. We did this so that we were certain everyone would show for the filming of our music video.
The filming was a great sucess!

Location of where we are going to film x2

Here is a print screen of Camden Town on Google maps. We have circled the town where myself and Jake will be acting. The red circle indicating where Jake came out of the train station and we started to film. The green circle indicates where Jake walked down the busy street in Camden. We actually did a lot of filming where the green circle has been indicated. We filmed Jake walking down the busy road, Jake standing still while everyone walked around him and Jake standing still with myself behind him "stalking" him.

Risk assessment

Here I have made a risk assessment for when we travel up to Camden. This way I have ensured that we are safe and know what to do if something goes wrong. Here I have thought of all the possible things that could effect our filming.

Animatic

How we created our animatic

- Draw storyboard frames- firstly with pencil then bold black pen to enhance the photo
-Individual pictures were taken from a camera
-Uploaded onto our computer
-Placed into Photo shop and edited using brightness and contrast to further enhance the framing
-Import the photos into the editing programme- Final cut pro
- Place each image into the time line and cut the length of it
- Place our music "state of flux" into the audio time line
- Effects and transitions added- overlays, earthquake, fade in/out
-Export onto a video uploading programme
-Embed into our blogs

Our Target Audience

Here I have designed a poster of what our target audience is like. When thinking up of the song and the music video I had my cousin in mind! She is the perfect fit. She has a Indie personality and style. Our target audience are a lot of girls and boys like her!

I have also put a picture under the poster of a indie male.
Indies like to shop at shops such as Top shop, Top man,Urban outfitters and All saints.
they use Online sources a lot and enjoy interacting with friends over Face book and Twitter.

After taking a picture of my cousin I thought I'd look into what http://www.uktribes.com/ thought :

Indie:Musically, Vampire Weekend, The Killers, The Klaxons, Glasvegas, Lily Allen, Pete Doherty, Friendly Fires, Bloc Party

Indie kids are particularly fond of bands with teenage members, like Cajun Dance Party or Laura Mauling, where there’s a small gap between the band and their audience.

Fashion of Indie Pop Artists:Fashion-wise, the uniform of Converse and skinny jeans, fringes, band T-shirts and lots of jewellery remains unchanged. Clothes are second-hand not vintage.

Demographics:

We sat together and come up with a target audience. We decided that our target audience would be people from 16-25 year old. Male and females. People this age will be interested in them music and understand the term INDIE. They will be able to relate with he mood and genre of the music. The music videos will also appeal to people in this age range.

When thinking of Target audience I also felt I had to think about the brand of my music video as well.
The target audience for my music video depends on my brand.

What makes Indie a unique brand? AND what target audience does the brand perceive?

Indie music video offers a different transformation and experience then most music. The mood of songs are usually mostly negative, upsetting and depressing. Our target audience get the find it EASY to relate to Indie music and the artist. The artist is usually close in age to the target audience making them feel more comfortable and being able to relate to them easier.

Target audience Profile ....
This is a typical outfit of an male Indie.

Inspiration and how it makes an Indie music video

As a group we discussed what our inspiration was. What sort of different conventions in music videos that we saw we wanted in out music video. And how they were in Indie videos.
Inspiration : Overlays
Holding up posters
Stalking

A music video takes months to edit before itis shown on our TVs, this is just the same for us, it will take us a long time to edit the music video. We don't want to edit it the same way as everybody's, making our video seem the exact same to others and"typical". To get away from this opinion we are going to use overlays.
We looked at Overlays in Pixie Lott- Its all about tonight. She uses overlays to show the location of the video and herself, this adds something to the video that the audience do not usually see. This will keep them interested in the video.
The use of overlays adds a graceful pace of editing to the video. We hopeto use overlays in our music video although most of our song is fast pace, on the more slow pace I feel that overlays will have a huge effect.

After looking at overlays I also looked at the idea of holding up posters in the music video. As our video emphasis on the idea of stalking and paranoia we felt that holding up posters would be a great way of showing the actors and actresses feelings and getting points across to the viewers in a different way rather then just acting it out. We looked at bands such as The Fray and Sugar Babes, these bands hold up posters in their songs.
Sugar Babes- Ugly in this video they hold up posters saying "BEAUTIFUL"
We will be holding up posters saying things like "State of flux" and "wanted" to captivate the audience.

We looked at the sense of stalking for our video. We feel that the idea of stalking, paranoia and vulnerability will add to the lyrics that are sung. We will have an actress stalking an actor. We want the video to be about broken relationships and not being able to get over things.
We looked at the idea of stalking in Twilight and films that involved relationships that were over.

Location of where our video will be filmed

CAMDEN TOWN

LocationLocationLocationLocationLocationLocationLocationLocationLocation

Here we have made a mood board and planned the places we are going to visit when we go to Camden Town. We have shown that we are going to use the train station for the beginning and ending of our video. We are also planning on our music video being in the evening so we have used pictures of Camden at night. We will be using Ally Ways and different roads that have Graffiti on the walls.
We felt that it was best to plan what we were going to do while in Camden so that once we got there we didn't waste time.
Next to the pictures are why we want to go to these destinations!

We are going to Camden in the christmas holiday to take our own pictures of the location. I will upload soon!!!

Pitch

Before we get started I have decided to pitch our idea for the music video to you!!

The song we are creating a music video for is Flux- Bloc Party. My group is myself, Vicky Gordon, Sophie Jansen and Voke Oyeye. All three of these are my close friends, meaning this is an advantage when making the music video as we know each others truth and weakness's.

The song its self is a fast paced song about romance. The main lyrics in the song are "State of Flux". The song lyrics tell us a story about how a relationship is falling apart and they need to try and sort it out. However random lyrics are also added in, such as "I saw my father in second grade" so we have decided to make the video quite bizarre and "crazy".

We are going to have a main actor and a actress who is the stalker. She is going to follow him every where he goes making him feel paranoid and confused. As sometimes when he turns round she won't be there.

. The girl will be following the boy around Camden town, putting up pictures of him sayinf "Wanted!" and following him around the train station. The same scene will be shown for every chorus. This will be when he is shown in a room that is filled with pictures of both of them and love quotes wrote all over the walls.

This video is all about the sense of paranoia and vulnerability. Hopefully with all of our knowledge on Indie music videos our music video will be a hit!

WHY CAMDEN?
we have chosen to shoot in Camden because, the setting is exactly what we want! We want a busy place where there will be lots of rushing and bumping into each other. We have decided to go there when the trains will be most busy. We also liked the look of Camden at night. It has a spooky, stillness and empty atmosphere about it.

EMOTIONS THAT WILL BE PORTRAYED FROM THE MUSIC VIDEO
-paranoia
-vulnerability
-loneliness
-emptiness

I'll keep you updated on how its going!

Story board

Here we are working as a team and discussing our story board ideas, as you can see we have already made good progress with the story board.
Myself and Sophie Jansen also recorded ourselves having a conversation discussing our story board and our ideas for the story board. Vicky and Voke were drawing the pictures for the story board whilst me and Sophie were thinking of new ideas to discuss with the both of them. This is how our planning came about.

Here we designed an animatic drawing of our video before we actually went out and filmed the video. We did this to get a sense of what our video was going to look like. This way if there were parts we didn't like we could change them now rather than having to re-film!
Myself and Sophie thought up of the story line and the main artists of the group Vicky and Voke added in their input and designed the pictures once we had agreed. We worked as a team doing this and all had individual tasks. After this will put the pictures into Final Cut and made an animatic video out of it. Myself and Vicky did the editing as we felt this was our strength. Our other group members gave input on things we were not sure on.
Now that we have completed the anitmated video we just need to film !!

Our Actress

Actress: Emily Fry
Age:17
Why?: I am the actress in the music video. In the music video I am our actors stalker, I have been chosen to be the actress because the rest of the group feel that I have a distincitve look and distincitive hair that added together with clothing can stand out, so that it is clear to the audience and viewers that I am always in the shot and always following Jake our actor. This was an important thing for us to think about. I also feel that I will be able to act well in the video.

Our Actor

Actor: Jake
Age: 17
Why?:Here are pictures of the Actor that we are actually going to use in our music video, we have decided to use Jake because we feel he meets the indie look we are looking for. He has the dress sense and tattoos that I said the Indie culture consists of in a previous post. He also has mannerisms and characteristics of a Indie teenager, this means although of course he will have to act, he may find it easier than some one else who isn't so Indie.
The first picture is his tattoo, this is a bold statement of Indie, not just a tattoo but more whats in the tattoo a skull and flowers add to the Indie vibe and are now a must have in the Indie world! The third picture shows his style, this is the type of style we are going for in our music video just with a jacket on, seeing as most of our video will be filmed in the evening.
The second picture is to show the behaviour of jake, our video is about the Indie scene and needs to be pretty outragous, with acting from Jake I feel we will be able to do this!

Mood board

My group and I created a mood board and put all our ideas for the music video together. This shows how much research we have done into our music video and how much creativity we have as a whole group. We focused on our genre and our audience.

Here are some pictures of not only our mood board that shows the lyrics, words and pictures surrounding it but pictures of us making it as well. It was essential for our lyrics to be part of the mood board so that viewers could see where we were getting our ideas from.

The pictures in the mood board are showing drugs, indie characters and indie locations. We did this to see our ideas on paper to see if they worked.
