Rough cut

gif makerHere is the rough cut of our video. This was the first time editing for myself and Vicky. We both took on the role of editing and worked well together, sharing the work fairly. Final Cut editing was a lot harder then we thought it was going to be. It was definitely a lot harder then editing the animation that me and Vicky edited. We felt that it was going to be quite similar but it was actually A LOT different because with the animatic our main focus was when each clip was meant to change, on the different counts of the beat. However with the actual editing, we had to ensure we got the right amount of clip because stretching it to however long we wanted it was not an option. We could only stretch it to how long the clip was. We also had to render each clip after editing it. Although myself and Vicky were working well together having to render every clip after editing it was extremely time consuming. We were able to quickly find out how to render it, edit and cut it and also add in effects such as cross dissolves and desaturated images.
Things I will do differently when editing for the final cut.
Myself and Vicky have looked at the rough cut and decided on a few things that we will definitely change in the final cut. We are going to change the lighting on some of the clips so that the lighting matches the scene and mood we are setting. some parts we filmed are in light when they should be in dark etc. We want to create continuity and the same house style. We want our video to make sense.
At one point during filming out camera run out of battery, as we borrowed the camera we were not giving the battery for it. We were not going to let this stop us, so for the rough cut we decided to use another digital device. We forgot to ensure that the digital divide was landscape and unfortunately the filming came out portrait. We didn't have time to re-film to before the rough cut was due in so have decided that will be one of our first priorities to do for the final cut.

As we expected some of our timings of clips were out compared to our animatic. We didn't mind this but we want to make sure there still in beat. so we will go through and ensure that they match the song perfectly.

Here are some images of the editing process

Filming for the second time

For our second shot at filming we are filming the chorus in Sophie's garage. We are also filming the end part where Jake is confronted by the stalker at Long field Train station.

In our second part of our filming we are going to do the chorus and other parts that we feel we should re-do due to lighting.

Second time round filming I feel that we will make less mistakes, we will have our story board with us and know exactly what we are doing. We will also know how we want our lighting to be so what time to film certain parts and how long to film for seeing as some parts get cut down due to speeding them up on Final Cut.

After our second lot of filming, we will have all of our filming done and will be able to start really editing for our rough cut to get the final touches to the video.

OUR EDITING SO FAR....

So far we have edited what we can. Every clip we feel that is good enough for our video we have edited. It is hard for us to see how it looks so far because there are a lot of gaps due to the filming not being finished.

The Chorus

The Chorus in our song is the part when Jake our actor finds out that he is being stalked. He is feeling paranoid anyway and runs into a room where he can get away. As he runs in he sees pictures of him self and love quotes all over the wall. Indicating the stalkers love for him. This is the first time he finds out about the stalker.
Strobe lights will be used to add a sense of paranoia.
This poster has also been used, it is going to be added to. Making a huge poster of all pictures of Jake and intense love sayings.

Time schedule for filming

When knowing that we didn't have long until the final cut was due in and knowing how little of the filming we had done. I have decided to make a time schedule. This time schedule tells us exactly what we are planning to do on Friday and what each member of the group MUST bring on the day.
This will help us work better as we will know exactly what we have to do. We can tick it off as we do each one this way nothing gets forgotten and we can start to edit properly!
I printed four of these time schedules out so that all of the members of the group could have one and knew what to bring.

Our first day of filming

Our first attempt at filming up Camden.
On the Wednesday the 4th of January Myself, Vick, Sophie, Voke and Jake all met up to travel to Camden and film out first attempt at our music video. Some parts were really good and have been used in our rough cut. Other parts we definitely need to re-do after looking at the lighting and spacing in final cut.

ROLES IN THE MAKING OF THE VIDEO

EMILY FRY AND JAKE VERLANDER - starring in the video
SOPHIE JANSEN AND VOKE OYEYE- filming the video
VICKY GORDON- directing the video
EMILY FRY with help from Vicky Gordon- editing the video on Final Cut.

Here is a bridge in Camden we are using in our film. We have felt that using this as an overlay would give a great alone effect. Its dark, no one is walking on the bridge and the sense of cold flowing water sends chills to the viewers.

This location is where we have filmed the part where the actor first meets his stalker. This is a great place because it looks like a quiet, deserted underwalk. That fits in wonderfully with the sense of loneliness.

This is a picture of Jake our actor. This is taken by Camden lock. We have edited this picture so that it brightens up the graffiti. The graffiti adds the effect to the youthful audience we are trying to relate to and the mood we are trying to set. Dark and grim, lonely and scared. Paranoid. COLOURS that relate to this are dark colours such as black and blue.

PROBLEMS WE HAD WHILE FILMING

. IT STARTED TO RAIN AND GET DARK THEREFORE SOME OF THE FILMING COULDN'T GET DONE AS IT WAS TOO DARK TO SEE OUR ACTOR AND MYSELF THE ACTRESS

. WE WANTED THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO HELP OUT WITH BEING IN THE VIDEO BUT IT WAS HARDER THEN WE THOUGHT TO GET PEOPLE WHO WERE WILLING TO BE FILMED.

. ON OUR FIRST DAY OF FILMING WE HAD FORGOT OUT STORY BOARD. ALTHOUGH WE ALL KNEW IT ROUGHLY WE DIDN'T KNOW THE WHOLE STORY LINE FROM SCENE TO SCENE SO THERE WERE SOME PARTS THAT WERE MISSED OUT!

BETTER LUCK ON OUR SECOND TIME FILMING I'M SURE!

Equipment used to film our music video (rough cut and final cut)

When thinking of the type of music video we wanted to make we didn't need any instruments. The equipment we did need was a great camera and a tripod that was going to be able to be carried around Camden and other locations easily.

The camera we have used is amazing. It's extremely clean and shows well in dark. This was exactly why we wanted to use it. A lot of our music video is in the dark and we wanted the viewers to be able to see what was going on rather then it being blurred or too dark. Therefore we needed a good video camera that picked up the changing in lighting. The camera that we used is called Canon 1234B002 Model EOS 30D (SRL) and here is a picture of it.....

After looking at the camera we needed a tripod. We used the Canon Deluxe 200 Tripod, for scenes that entitled still footage. It was essential that the camera work was stable as if it wasn't it could look unprofessional and ruin our final cut. We want viewers to see t his as a music video that could be seen on their TV's. The tripod was little enough when folded up that it could be carried around without it being too heavy. It also pulled out so that we could change the height of the camera if needed to lift it up or put it lower to the ground.

Here is a picture of the tripod.

Further planning for our video

We inboxed one another on facebook telling eachother train times and how much they cost. We did this so that we were certain everyone would show for the filming of our music video.
The filming was a great sucess!

Location of where we are going to film x2

Here is a print screen of Camden Town on Google maps. We have circled the town where myself and Jake will be acting. The red circle indicating where Jake came out of the train station and we started to film. The green circle indicates where Jake walked down the busy street in Camden. We actually did a lot of filming where the green circle has been indicated. We filmed Jake walking down the busy road, Jake standing still while everyone walked around him and Jake standing still with myself behind him "stalking" him.
